South Indian appalam with even a simple rasam would make the meal hearty. I am a huge fan of appalam/papad, but it was not made frequently in my home as it requires more oil to deep fry it. After my marriage i found this way of roasting in oven and yes, it could be made with just few drops of oil and it turns flawless pairing well with our lunch especially sambar sadham.

Personally, I prefer using MTR appalam or Popular appalam, but it works well with any brand. Do try this at home and enjoy low calorie appalam. This is not a post, but an idea of doing simple task with oven.

INGREDIENTS

Appalam/ south indian papad as required
Oil required to brush

Method:

 1. Place a drop or two of oil on the top of the appalam and gently apply over them using a finger or a brush. Make sure to cover the entire appalam, use few more drops if required. Do so on both the sides.

2. Arrange them on the turntable inside the oven with little spacing so as to accomodate them on raising. Microwave high for one minute, but keep an eye on them. When you see that they have raised fully stop and check. Cook for a few more seconds if required. They turn crisp after 2 minutes when out of oven.

Notes:

  • Make sure to cover the appalam with oil all over or else you may end up getting uneven results.
  • Adjust the oven timings accordingly. When trying for the first time please watch closely as there are chances of burning easily.
  • Leave them a resting time of 2 minutes to gain crispness.
