Have you heard about red rice/ unpolished rice. Many mistake the unpolished rice with kerala rice/ matta rice, but this is different from them. These have not been polished and appear red in colour. You shall spot them in organic stores. In the normal stores they deem some other rice to be unpolished rice, but do not buy them thinking it as unpolished rice. These have many health benefits and besides that it does not make you gain weight as with the white rice recipes. It has fiber and many vitamins in them so it is a wise and healthy choice to move from the white rice to red rice for everyday use. I have gained considerable weight postpartum and consequently shed lot of pounds using them on a daily basis so i would recommend this to anyone pondering on weight loss. We grew eating our idlis and dosas a long way in our life so changing to some other food like oats would be tough endeavour whereas a slight change of eating unpolished rice would be a good option right. Take a look at the unpolished rice below

I use Navadharshanam brand of unpolished rice as it yeilds crispy dosas and sometimes Timbaktu. If you dont have access to any organic stores try finding them online. This is not essentially a recipe, but an idea to include red rice instead of white rice. You shall either completely replace red rice for white rice in the same proportion or use both half and half. All you need to do is follow the same proportion as white rice and grind the batter fluffy and light. Dosas made with red rice are little chewy in nature. Below is my proportion of grinding red rice dosa batter.

INGREDIENTS
3 1/2 cups unpolished rice/ red rice
1/2 cup of urad dal
water for grinding
salt to taste

Method:

1. Soak red rice and urad dal seperately for 3 hours.
